Holiday Villas Kefalonia are absolutely delighted to be able to showcase this truly unique and historical house, which has been re-built completely over the past few years and has been brought back to life and its former glory!
Mathilda’s House is a stunning traditional stone property located in one of the most picturesque locations on the whole island, in the village of Tselentata, just a stone’s throw from the famous harbour village of Fiscardo and a very short walk from the idyllic Bay of Foki, with its crystal-clear blue waters and totally unspoilt natural beauty.
We cannot emphasise enough the labour of love and the care & attention to detail that the new owners have put into this house in order to bring it back to its former glory… then some!!!!
Externally, Mathilda’s House was painstakingly re-built using traditional methods & materials, due to its location within a designated ‘area of natural beauty’ & is further enhanced by the delightful natural garden areas, which compliment the house perfectly. Internally is a different story, where the style, finishes and décor are an absolutely perfect fusion of old, modern, minimalistic and rural and when blended together, have produced a unique house of pure beauty coupled with amazing functionality.
Entering the ground floor via the solid wooden door you will be immediately transfixed by the incredible open plan living space which includes the very stylish dining/kitchen areas, the design and finishes of which are impeccable. There is a traditional wood burning fireplace within the living room and this area also houses a sofa bed which can be used for 1 additional child. This floor is served by a gorgeous shower room complete with WC & wash basin, finished in a combination of modern polished concrete and tiles. A bedroom housing 2 single beds with ample wardrobe space completes the ground floor area.
Moving up the wonderful feature staircase, takes you to the 2nd Master bedroom located on the 1st floor, comprising a double bed complete with en-suite shower room and plenty of wardrobe and storage space. The bedroom leads out through the patio doors onto a huge balcony, from where you get a breathtaking vista of the whole area including the blue azure seas and way out beyond to the mystical island of Ithaki, the ancient birthplace of Odysseus himself.
Throughout the property, you will see items of furniture and decoration that have been in the family collection and treasured for many years, and these all help to add to the total uniqueness of this stunning property.
Outside, Mathilda’s House continues to amaze, with natural terraced garden areas surrounding the house itself and further afield, the forests and trees that are abundant in this part of the island, give a sense of nature and beauty seldom experienced in a rental property.
Located within a few metres of the famous ‘Cypress Trail’, this property would also be a walker’s paradise, due to the surrounding forest trails and the sheer unspoilt beauty in abundance everywhere you turn.
Mathilda’s House will not fail to astound and amaze its guests and will undoubtedly become one of the most sought after and unique historical houses available for rental anywhere on our wonderful island of Kefalonia!
A message from the owners of Mathilda’s House:
“Myself Christina, Wolfgang & our 2 children Mathilda & Philipp, searched for a very long time for the right place in Greece to build a home.
Several years ago, we went on a sailing trip around the Ionian Sea and we loved the area. On our next trip we concentrated on the island of Kefalonia itself & after travelling all over, we found this amazing village of Tselentata, which we all fell in love with immediately.
We take this island and especially Tselentata to our hearts, due to the sheer beauty, the nature and the crystal-clear waters surrounding this area.
Whilst back in our home in Germany we searched the internet for houses and came across this ruin. Without even seeing it in person, we went ahead and bought… rather risky but we were lucky. We actually saw the ruin for the first time 6 months later and it was exactly what we wanted: a traditional village house totally surrounded by nature itself.
I, (Christina) come from a Greek background, so the traditional aspects of Greek lifestyle are very important for me, and as you will see when you visit Mathilda’s House, I have decorated our home with some very old, very personal & very sentimental items from my Greek Grandma.
I hope you feel relaxed and comfortable in our home and I hope you enjoy your stay and love the house as much as we do”.
